PURPOSE: To build community between students with common interests and parent volunteers through enrichment activities during lunch.

DESCRIPTION: The La Entrada Lunchtime Enrichment (LELE) programs are activities and clubs which students can participate in during lunch time. Each program typically meets once/month. Students will learn more about the offerings and sign up at our annual Leopard’s Faire during lunch.

The 2017-2018 Leopard’s Faire occurred during lunch on Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26, 2017.  Students who missed sign-ups can still participate by contacting our Committee Chair, Jen Coleman, below.

Each year, the program offering is reviewed and updated by the LELE committee chair, and is primarily based upon parent volunteer availability. This year, we plan to offer the following clubs: (Club leader volunteers are listed)

  • Art Club (Vera Conley and Ashley Jack)
  • Book Clubs by grade level (Kristine Westerlind)
  • Physics Club (Chris Bishop)
  • Yoga & Meditation (Courtney Bianchi and Margaret Romero)
  • GeoBee Club (Rebecca Deutscher and Xiuying Jin; club meets monthly until the GeoBee Competition in January; this club is optional for those students who plan to participate in the GeoBee Competition; students may also participate in the Club and not the Competition)
Karan B.

Ideas for additional clubs in 2017-18 (need parent volunteers to come forward!)

  • Financial Wizardry Club
  • Minecraft Club
  • Chess Club
  • Community Service (for 4th and 5th graders)
  • and any other idea!

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer commitment is 1-8 hours per month depending on the club. Some clubs are defined and designed by the parent volunteer with the help of student participants. We are always open to new ideas! Clubs that parents have created in the past include Medicine, Historical Weapons and Wars, Science, Spy Technology, Knitting, and International Cultures.

Volunteers work with the Assistant Principal and the Lunchtime Enrichment Committee Chair to schedule the monthly meetings and reserve rooms.  They also make announcements about the clubs by submitting articles to the Leopard’s Spot editor and submitting announcements for KPAW, the weekly student news broadcast, to the Assistant Principal.

CONTACT: If you have any questions about the LELE program, please email our LELE Committee Chair Jen Coleman.

Volunteer!

If you’d like to volunteer for Lunchtime Enrichment, please enter your contact info below.

Please sign up above or email our LELE Committee Chair, Jen Coleman, if you are interested in being a part of this award-winning parent-run program.  Funds are available to reimburse volunteers for expenses.  This is a fantastic opportunity for you to get involved with expanding our students’ interests once per month.

Please note: Parents who regularly volunteer at school may be required to undergo a TB risk assessment (if not done within the past 3 years) and finger-printing. This includes Lunchtime Enrichment Volunteers.  Additional information will be provided to volunteers at the beginning of the school year.
