PURPOSE: Encourage students to learn more about geography and world cultures.

The La Entrada PTA 2017-2018 GeoBee competition is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 3pm.

DESCRIPTION: The National Geographic Bee (GeoBee), an educational program of the National Geographic Society, is a nationwide geography competition for U.S. middle schools, grades four through eight.

GeoBee at La Entrada includes optional monthly, lunchtime study clubs for students, beginning in the fall and led by the Committee Chair(s).  These meetings include geography games and fun activities. All La Entrada students have the opportunity for a fun, competitive experience with prizes.  The winner will have the chance to move on to the statewide competition.

The winner will take a qualifying test that will be submitted to National Geographic for scoring. The top 100 students (selected based on qualifying test scores) in the state of California qualify to represent their schools and compete at the state level.

State winners are invited to National Geographic headquarters in late May to compete in the national finals for scholarships in the amount of U.S. $50,000, $15,000 and $10,000.

All fourth through eighth graders can participate. For more information about the GeoBee and study aids, interested students can go to http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/study-corner/.

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION: Help with GeoBee on the day of event.  Four to five volunteers are needed to run the sign-in table, help participants to seat assignments, and help with scoring.
